Parasite TV:
A Vision for Croydon’s Future
Parasite TV is a four-episode show presented as part of a unique exhibition at Turf Projects, showcasing the imaginative and collaborative work of PolyVocalCity's 2024 cohort.
The exhibition displayed a range
of objects and films created by participants, whose setting reflects the space at the Royal College of Art, where the Parasite TV series was developed. This show adopted diverse formats to explore
and reimagine the narratives of urban life:
A talk show amplifying the voices of inhabitants—both human and more-than-human—of a tower block; A strange encounter with the ghosts of shopping centres;
A gaming session inviting audiences to build new realities;
A musical and conversational journey with Croydon locals.
Through storytelling, choreography, music, and games, participants engaged with themes of social and environmental justice, focusing on how urban redevelopment and regeneration could serve more equitable cultural futures.
The 2024 cohort, in particular, used parasitic life as a metaphor
to challenge entrenched power structures, exploring how mutual support fosters resilience and breaks down hierarchies. Their innovative approaches sought to uncover new ways of imagining Croydon’s environmental, social, and cultural narratives.
Accompanying the exhibition was a dynamic program of events that invited audiences to participate in the imagined worlds created by the cohort.
