How it Works
with and without me,
within the space 2019
The two screens show a contrast: one where the artist moves the panel and another where the panel moves on its own.
This performance reflects the constraints of
today’s DIY culture, where high costs and limited living space make expanding artwork, especially sculptures, increasingly difficult.
The reliance on cheap materials mirrors the precariousness of modern living, where artists struggle to find suitable studio space in cities.
The room divider symbolizes these limitations, representing the boundaries of space and the financial pressures shaping contemporary art.
The video preserves this fleeting interaction, capturing the essence of DIY creativity shaped by financial and spatial restrictions.
Recorded and exhibited at the Koppel Project as part of the group show Utopia Through Nostalgia at Koppel Project, London, curated by Molly Brocklehurst, London.
